Famous Author : Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl was born in Wales on September 13th 1916. His parents were Norwegian. His writing career started in 1942 when he first wrote an article for the Saturday Evening Post.

For the first 15 years of his writing career,  Dahl concentrated on writing for adults. His short stories are classics of the storyteller's craft. His stories were initially published in New Yorker, Harpers and Atlantic Monthly before being collected in book form.

He first became interested in writing children's books by making up bedtime stories for his daughters Olivia and Tessa. This was how James and the Giant Peach came into being. His second book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a significant success both in the USA and UK. An unbroken string of bestselling titles followed. In spite of his unrivalled success, he only won a few awards i.e.  The Whitbread Award for The Witches and The Children's Book Award for Matilda.

Roald Dahl died at the age of 74 in the year 1990. Since his death, his books have more or less maintained their popularity.

He's one of my favourite writers during my primary school years! His short stories are so quirky and I enjoyed reading them so much. Thanks for sharing!
